Citrix is Open source

Category: Web ADC's, WAN Optimization, Hypervisors
I recently read Steven Levy's article "Booting Up Baghdad: Tech Execs Take a Tour in Iraq" (http://www.wired.com/politics/security/magazine/17-08/ff_iraq).
One thing that really left me feeling a bit disconcerted was the fact that Citrix Systems never seems to be included in the Silicon Valley tech delegation conversations.
The Web 2.0 community is really overlooking one of the best Open Source infrastructure technologies in the market, and thus limiting how fast and easily
Citrix technology can enable the "entrepreneurial vigor" in Iraq. I seriously need to have a conversation with Mr. Jared Cohen! (http://www.state.gov/s/p/115458.htm)

This is not you parents Citrix Systems anymore.
The company portfolio has expanded significantly over the years making the overall product suite somewhere around 24 products.
What is nice about a comprehensive product line, is the freedom to solve enterprise challenges by combining products within the suite to deliver a solution,
thus eliminating many of the requirements that we have traditionally used from single product vendors in the past. This approach is enabling customers the
flexibility and scalability of integration on the fly, as soon as a project is approved.  Customers and Users are now bringing Citrix Technology with them through the entire business cycle.

One thing that is worth noting in the Citrix product portfolio is the amount of Open Source technology that is contributing to several of the platform architectures.
Notably is use of FreeBSD, Linux, and XenSource. We have entered an age in technology where closed source and open source are living in the same product
portfolio serving the needs of  a very diverse user bases.

Getting down and dirty with the sales pitch.
It's nice to have products in the portfolio that provide significant value to customers immediately.
The big attraction this year was the Virtual Appliances on demonstration at Citrix Synergy 2009 in Las Vegas. We now offer virtual appliances in concert to the physical appliance line,
making us a stronger solution in the Enterprise space and extending our reach into the SMB space.

This is my vote for the story of the year in our industry. Even though we are still in Q1'09, I am betting it will hold up.
